Dimensions

Parade Configuration pertains to the unit in its fully assembled state, as it rests in Float Assembly and travels down the parade route.

The length must be a minimum of 35 feet. Minimum ground clearance for rigid structure, excluding ground contact points (e.g. wheels), must be 12 inches. While non-rigid structure (Tinsel, streamers, Fringe) is allowed lower than 12 inches, it should be flexible enough to handle uneven street surfaces without damage. Tow Unit pertains to the separate unit, if required, that pulls the main float unit. Cars, trucks, small tractors and tow motors are various examples of commonly used tow units. The tow unit must be decorated in concert with the entire float theme. Float walkers and all persons traveling the Parade route with the float must be costumed consistent with the theme of the float. No political official (elected, nominated, or appointed), nor any candidate for public office, will be allowed to participate with the float as a rider or walker, either at Parade Preview or the Pegasus Parade. The Kentucky Derby Festival, Inc must approve use of pageant winners, or similar individuals, other than the Kentucky Derby Festival Queen and her Court.
